Skin can benefit from supplementation with vitamins and minerals, from inside and out. Depending on your skin needs, you can apply face creams and body lotions that contain certain vitamins. These days, not only the creams can nourish your skin but a lot of makeup products are packed with mineral and vitamins, to also protect your skin.
When ingested, the same vitamins and minerals that help your skin will also help your nails and hair. Pay attention to your skin, nails and hair, because they are the reflection of your general health. You are what you eat and whenever your skin shows signs of dullness, premature aging, acne or other conditions, revise your diet and supplement it, if necessary with a vitamin complex, especially formulated to help your skin.
The vitamins important for a healthy skin are:
- Vitamin A: It helps strengthen your skin, reduces sebum and thus, prevents acne. It has regenerative properties and it also helps in the elimination of toxins and free radicals. It is a powerful antioxidant and is a key factor in preventing and diminishing the fine lines and wrinkles.
- Beta Carotene: Helps prevent and diminish the negative effects of exposure to sun.
- Vitamin B Complex: By relieving stress, it boosts the immunity in your body. As a consequence, it helps against acne. It also improves blood traffic and boosts the metabolism.
- Vitamin C: It is important for our bodies not only for boosting our immunity and for fighting infections. It is also a very strong antioxidant, helping skin to stay young and supple. It protects skin from damaging sun exposure and it also prevents blemishes and broken blood vessels.
- Vitamin E: Great moisturizer and skin softener, vitamin E is anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and to a certain extent, also protects against sun damage.
- Vitamin K: It is important in fighting blood clots, this is why, when applied, on the skin, it will make bruises and even dark circle to disappear.
In combination with vitamins, there are also minerals and acids and other nutrients that play a key role in preserving a healthy skin: selenium, more and more proven to prevent skin cancer and sun damage; copper, important for the production of elastin, in our bodies, keeping the skin structure strong and full of elasticity; zinc, known to clear the skin from acne and restoring the production of sebum; alpha-lipoic acid, one of the strongest antioxidant and the only one that works on skin, both from the inside or out, with an amazing effect on aged skin; DMAE, which simply annihilates free radicals, protects against sun damage and pollution and prevents age spots; hyaluronic acid, helping to lubricate joints and to keep the skin cells together, making the skin look smoother and toned; essential fatty acids (EFAs) which are anti-inflammatory, fight skin dryness, black heads and white heads.
Any of these nutrients can be found in food and a balanced, healthy diet should provide them all to our bodies. Though, for people with poor assimilation, the skin and its conditions can show clearly, what nutrients are missing and should be supplemented.
