Sun Protection

Dangers like premature skin aging, discoloration and cancer arise from exposure to sun. Even more, these days, a lot of medications cause people to become very sensitive to sun rays. Education is a key factor when it comes to protection, knowing what makes sun radiation dangerous and when, what to wear and what to do to keep your skin free from sun damages.

What makes exposure to sun dangerous is the ultraviolet, the sun rays that exist at the middle of the magnetic spectrum. Ultraviolet includes UVA, UVB and UVC, the first two being potentially, lethal, to humans, at extended exposure.

Sun tan may be considered a beauty demand but, in reality, it is nothing but skin damage. In order to protect itself from radiation, the skin is producing more pigment. Long exposure to sun, though, can cause extended damage that cannot be reversed. Cancer and premature aging are one of them.

For those who make tanning a fashion statement, the safest way to stay tanned is by converting oneself to sunless tanning, with lotions sprayed on the body. There is no sun exposure and the lotion will not fade away from the skin, earlier than four to six days. It can be done, easily, at home, using a spray can or at a specialized salon, in a booth where the color is sprayed all over one's body. The advantage of sunless tanning is that it may, beautifully; mask skin imperfections and women prefer it nowadays, on their legs, to wearing stockings.
 
There are many resources, these days, teaching people how to stay safe from the sun. This can be achieved both with protective clothing and broad spectrum sunscreens, with SPF+30. It takes twenty minutes for the sunscreen to be absorbed into the skin, to provide the optimal protection, against the sun. Applying sunscreen should become a daily routine, for everybody, particularly for those with lighter complexion. Sunscreen should be kept, on the skin, all day long. Even during bad weather, the clouds do not block the ultraviolet rays, so they reach our skin, under any conditions.

Sun protective clothes may contradict fashion, most of the time, particularly for women. The requirements for efficient protection is that most of the skin is covered, around ninety percent, with long sleeve shirts and long pants or skirts. The fabric should be light and comfortable, in white or very light shades, to refract the sun rays and to provide a cooling effect. There are also products that can be added in the laundry wash, that increase the UV protection, in clothes, for a limited period of time. Large summer hats or light colored umbrellas are also recommended. Last but not the least, one should also protect the eyes and children should be used to sunglasses, since very early.

These days, more and more beauty and personal care products contain SPF. Shampoos and hairsprays to prevent the hair from drying out, in the sun, face creams and makeup, from powder to eye shadow and lipstick. More and more, the SPF contained in cosmetics and skin care compounds becomes a quality criteria their consumer demand is increasing.
