Neglected in their personal care by some, body lotions are necessary in nourishing and maintaining the skin, on your body. Just because it is covered by clothing does not mean that the body is protected or simply does not need to look good. With every shower, proper care should be given to the body, similar to the care we give to our faces.

Keeping the skin on our bodies smooth and elastic is not only a beauty standard but a necessity, as our bodies’ breath through our skins. Dry and prematurely aged skin may even make one's moves uncomfortable. In time, skin problems may arise.

The body lotions are compounds of water and oils, kept together, in a homogenous form, through added alcohol. Body lotions may be used either for daily skin care, for medical purposes and for massage.

Since ancient times, people noticed that bathing themselves in goat milk was improving their skin, making it look younger and softer. Lotions are formulated for all types of skins, dry, normal, oily or mixed, exactly like the face creams. They come in a variety of colors and fragrances, more or less oily, to satisfy each taste. Some are fragrance free or are formulated, especially, for people with allergic reactions or extra sensitive skin. Some are formulated for regular maintenance and moisturizing, others are formulated to tone or to even change the skin color, for a sun tan look. Some skin lotions contain basic compounds and fragrance, other are enriched with vitamins and minerals. They can maintain, improve and even reverse the skin's aging process.

Body lotions are not only for general body use. There are some especially formulated to treat certain skin conditions, in certain areas. Some examples are the body lotions recommended for treating cellulite and those for treating dry, cracked skin or stretch marks.

Body lotions are not only formulated for certain age groups but also they are formulated to be used by women, men and children, especially infants. A lot of attention is given to the baby lotions, meant to have both a therapeutic and protective purpose. For example, in the case of the medicated body lotions to be used on infants' skin, even the skin color  is taken into consideration, because the babies with dark skin are more prone to rashes and more sensitive to their consequences.

Lately, with the “go green” trend, more and more people prefer body lotions made exclusively with natural ingredients. Some go even further and make their own body lotions, to make sure that everything they put on their skin is fresh, clean and completely safe.
